What Kind of On-The-Go Gamer Are You?

By Brian Huntley • Official Kids Mag

Passing the time on a long summer car trip used to be difficult. You would bring lots of crayons and coloring books, card games to play and CDs to listen to. These days, there are many more electronic options to keep your brain occupied as you head toward your vacation destination. Depending on if you’re a gamer that’s casual, serious or somewhere in between, you may find one or more of these gaming options to your liking.

If you’re like most kids, handheld gaming systems like the Nintendo 3DS will be a good solution to those boring trips. They offer great graphics, a huge selection of games and good battery life.

While smartphones and tablets are the ultimate in portability and usefulness, gaming on them has only become mainstream in recent years. Many good games are free to download, but include in-game purchases, so always ask your adult when downloading any new apps.

If you can’t stand the thought of having anything but the best graphics and sound, then a powerful gaming laptop may be for you.

Maybe you’re undecided and want a solid handheld, but don’t want to skimp on quality games and graphics. In that case, the Nintendo Switch might interest you. Having the power of a current generation home console and the portability of a handheld, the Switch should fill any on-the-go gaming needs you might have.

Below are a handful of games that were recommended by my 12-year-old son. Of course there are many more great games out there, but these few are rated from Everyone to Everyone 10+. We like to keep it family friendly around here.
