Kids in the Kitchen: Roasting Pumpkin Seeds

Believe it or not, there is a delicious Halloween treat that DOESN’T involve sugar!! It’s pumpkin seeds!

Not only do pumpkin seeds NOT rot your teeth, but they are actually good for you! Most of all, they taste great!

And they’re super easy to find at Halloween: they’re inside your pumpkin! So, after you clean out your pumpkin for carving, save the seeds for roasting.

Here’s how:

· Remove seeds from inside your pumpkin. Pumpkin seeds may sometimes be covered in a lot of pulp. After you take the seeds out of the pumpkin, wipe off the pulp and then spread the seeds out evenly on a paper bag, and let them dry overnight.

· Once the seeds have dried, put them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Roast the seeds in the oven at a temperature between 160 and 170 F for 15 to 20 minutes.

. Once they have been roasted, pumpkin seeds can be eaten as-is as a delicious snack. Add a little salt if you like!
