The Bentonville Public Library is holding the following events this month in order to entice young readers and spark their imaginations:
CURIOUS KIDS WORKSHOP

With autumn in the air, BPL decided it was the perfect time to have a ‘Pumpkin Lab’ to try out a fall twist on classic science fun. Students are invited to explore cool, easy and somewhat messy STEAM activities with pumpkins. For students in grades K – 6. Registration for this free program is not required.
STORYTIME @ BENTONVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER

Bentonville Public Library will present good books, action rhymes, and songs at the Bentonville Community Center. Located at 1101 SW Citizens Circle Bentonville, AR.

BPL @ TINKERFEST
Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Tinkerfest at the Scott Family Amazeum is a one-day celebration of creativity, curiosity and hands-on learning! Bentonville Public Library’s Children’s Department is joining the fun with a tinkering station featuring Makedo, a simple to use, open-ended system of tools for creative cardboard construction.
Join us to ‘Tinker with Tools.’ Tinkerers can build imaginative and useful creations from upcycled cardboard or just enjoy the experience of using the tools. The emphasis will be on process rather than the outcome.
The Scott Family Amazeum is located at 1009 Museum Way, Bentonville.
YOUTH DEBATE FORUM
Monday, October 7 & 21 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
This program is for anyone interested in Debate and creating arguments! If you are entering 5 – 8 grade this fall, we encourage you to join us! We will meet every other Monday starting on August 26.
Throughout the year, we will cover different debate techniques and topics. In these meetings, students will learn how to form arguments, conduct research, and present those arguments. Not only will these meetings prepare students for debate in high school, but they will also help them develop public speaking and critical thinking skills.
Registration for this free program is not required, but seating is limited.
WRITING WORKSHOP

FOLDING FRIENDS
Wednesday, October 9 @ 4 p.m.
Kids in grades 1 – 6 are invited to join volunteer origami instructors, Mr. Mike and Miss Hannah in the Art Area of the Children’s Department at Bentonville Public Library. Origami can help children concentrate, follow instructions and practice patience. All skill levels are welcome.

READ WITH OBI
Saturday, October 12 @ 10 a.m.
Elementary school-age children are invited to read to Obi, the Great Pyrenees and a member of Love On a Leash who will be accompanied by his owner, Mr. Larry. Students will take individual turns reading to Obi.

COVER TO COVER KIDS BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
Monday, October 14 @ 5 p.m.
Book of the month: Save Me a Seat by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan.
Kids in grades 4 – 6 are invited to read, think and share ideas about great books. Cover to Cover participants will also engage in an activity related to the story. Books are available in the Children’s Library. Keep the book forever after you attend the club meeting!
You MUST ATTEND that month’s club meeting to keep the book. Cover to Cover Kids Book Discussion books were purchased generously by the Friends of the Bentonville Library. The discussion will take place in the newly configured ‘Tween Area’ of the Children’s Library.
EARLY WRITING WORKSHOP

Students in grades 1 – 3 are invited to join us the third Tuesday of each month for 45 minutes of creative fun.
